Malmborg’s is truly a family-owned and operated business. Today George’s son, Troy (President) owns the company. George’s daughter Keri handles many varied aspects of the business including inventory, planning, and customer service. Van Cooley, George’s son-in-law, leads the sales and marketing drive in retail and fundraising. George’s grandchildren, Jared & Sam, are also working in the greenhouse.
We root over 1,300 varieties of plants, producing over five million plants, which are brought in from around the world. We grow finished plants for our own Garden Centers and other retailers in our area. There are always new and interesting varieties at Malmborg’s Garden Center so stop in and see what new plants and merchandise are available.
October 2020: It is with heavy hearts that we share with you that our patriarch, George Lucht passed away. George was an inspiration to all of us here at Malmborgs. For many years he led this company with excellence. Two children and a son-in-law remain actively involved along with several of the third generation – all continuing his legacy. Our Malmborg’s family will not be the same without him and we will miss him greatly.
July 2015: Malmborg’s closed the Brooklyn Center garden center and greenhouse to make way for New Millennium Academy, a local charter school. While we are saddened to leave this community after 57 years, we are excited for the future of our Blaine and Rogers garden centers and greenhouse.
April 2012: Malmborg’s opened an additional garden center location Located in Blaine, this spacious garden center has allowed Malmborg’s to bring our large selection of annuals, vegetables, herbs, and more to the North Metro. We look forward to serving the avid gardeners in the Blaine area and helping them to continue to beautify their homes and gardens.
1976: George expanded the business when he purchased the current growing range in Rogers, MN, and developed greenhouses and a retail store on the site.
1972: Malmborg’s was purchased by George Lucht after he had worked for the Malmborg’s family for many years. Malmborg’s Garden Center had earned an excellent reputation in the community and George decided to keep the name “Malmborg’s” and add “Geraniums by George” as his own personal touch.
1958: Malmborg’s Garden Center, established in Brooklyn Center.
